Q&A: Meet Daniela from Minto
Daniela Fiore-Goncalves is an Assistant Site Superintendent at Minto in Toronto, Ontario. We’re sitting down with Bridgit Field users at great companies committed to high construction quality to discover their favorite construction apps, punch list processes, and how they use technology on site.
What project are you currently working on?
88 Condos at Sheppard and Yonge in Toronto, ON.
What kind of smartphone do you have?
Do you use any other devices on-site?
I also use an iPad mini with 3G.
How has your job changed since starting to use a tablet on site?
The iPad is a tool that allows me to bring all information pertaining to the jobsite with me into the field. This includes all of our drawings, suite selections, shop drawings, site instructions and change orders. This allows for a quick reference of any information that may be needed. Prior to this, I would only be able to access this information from our site trailer or office. It is very easy to get side tracked by trades or other tasks while making my way down to the site office. Having immediate access to that information makes me more productive and allows me to do my job better.
Other than Bridgit Field, do you use any other apps on site?
We also use Journeyman which allows us to log our daily activities in real-time. Typically, at the end of each day, a super hand writes a daily report, but now we can add photos on the go to generate daily reports which are sent out in PDF format to our team via email. We are able to capture daily information like tasks, manpower counts, weather, quality control, health and safety and equipment logs more accurately and effectively.
How does Tasks help you most on site?
I used walk around with a notebook, write everything down and sit in the office at the end of each day, typing out emails to trades. It would be very time consuming and the emailed list of items would sometimes be ineffective in getting the work completed. The trades have been extremely responsive to Bridgit. In fact, they LOVE it. The site foreman or trade project manager receives daily and weekly reports with all the information they need which has proven to be much faster than the old process. I can do my job faster and so can the trades. It’s a win-win.
What is your favourite feature? Why?
Bridgit Field is my favourite, period [laughs]. But, if you were going to make me choose one standout feature it would be the auto-generated daily and weekly emails. This saves me a tremendous amount of time which can be refocused back on-site. Previously, these types of emails would be entered and sent manually by me, and Bridgit Tasks has taken over that process – it is like my own personal assistant! All I have to do is snap a picture, write a description and I’m done.
How did you find the subcontractor on-boarding process?
It’s been easy to get our team and even our trades on board. Everyone who has been introduced to Bridgit Tasks has responded extremely well. Funny enough, if a day goes by where I haven’t assigned a task to a trade, they are asking me where it is which keeps me on my toes. That kind of trade accountability is priceless!
